Speakers: Dr. Barbara Seals Nevergold

Join the Dr. Barbara Seals Nevergold, co-founder of the Uncrowned Queens Institute, as she shares the story of Andrew Jackson Smitherman. A survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, journalist Andrew J. Smitherman settled in Buffalo in 1925.  Over the next 35 years, he published the Buffalo Star and rebuilt a life of service, advocacy, and contribution to Buffalo’s Black community.
