Our Story with Terry Alford

Terry Alford, Executive Director of the Michigan Street African American Corridor, will host OUR STORY, a new radio show on WUFO Radio Power 96.5FM, airing every Thursday evening from 6:30 pm until 7 pm. The program will feature guests, unknown facts, treasured stories and themes that provide insight into the historic Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor. Join us and find out about the latest happenings in the corridor and meet the proud resilient men and women living within and around our historic neighborhoods on the East Side of Buffalo.

Episode 4: Reverend Eugene Pierce and Dr. Diane Cookfair

Terry talks to Rev. Eugene Pierce and Dr. Diane Cookfair about Jesse Clipper. Clipper was a talented performer and founding member of the Colored Musicians Club. He died in WWI as the first Black Buffalonian to lose his life in the war.

Episode 6: Dr. Lillian S. Williams
Aired: March 14, 2024

Terry talks to Dr. Lillian S. Williams, an Associate Professor and former chair of the Department of African American Studies. Dr. Williams received the doctorate degree from the University at Buffalo. A specialist in United States social and urban history, Dr.  Williams’ research is in the areas of institutions, ethnicity, biography and women’s history. Her research includes the YMCA and the National Urban League; and Mary Burnett Talbert, an early twentieth-century reformer.

She is the author of Strangers in the Land of Paradise:  The Creation of an African American Community, Buffalo, New York, 1900-1940.

Terry talks to Sage Hamilton Hazarika & Danielle Louis Jones. Together, Sage and Danielle are working on the The Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad New York Corridor - or “Tubman Corridor'' -  an initiative of the Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State (URCNYS) that will connect Underground Railroad sites including Underground Railroad Consortium of New York State sites, and National Park Service Network to Freedom sites, “Travel with Tubman'' sites. These sites, among others, showcase the rich abolition heritage of New York State and can be combined into one cohesive heritage tourism experience.
