The Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor Commission (MSAAHC) is proud to announce it will host Voices and Votes: Democracy in America, a compelling traveling exhibition from the Smithsonian Institution’s Museum on Main Street program, from August 8 through September 19, 2025. This powerful and timely exhibit will be housed within the Corridor and accompanied by a series of public programs, events, and grassroots community activities designed to expand its themes and local relevance.
Adapted from the National Museum of American History’s landmark exhibition, Voices and Votes explores the history of American democracy — from the revolution and women’s suffrage to the civil rights movement and contemporary civic engagement. Through historical artifacts, multimedia interactives, archival footage, photos, and protest material, the exhibition invites visitors to consider what democracy has meant in the past — and what it continues to mean today.
“This exhibition speaks directly to the heart of our mission at the MSAAHC,” says Terry Alford, Executive Director. “As a Corridor that tells the story of African American struggles and triumphs for freedom, justice, and equality, Voices and Votes is both a reflection of our past and a call to action for our future.”
Voices and Votes: Democracy in America will remain at the Michigan Street African American Heritage Corridor headquarters located at 119 Broadway, Buffalo, NY 14203
August 8 - September 19
Exhibition Hours: 11AM - 3PM
